READ: Billy Crystal Presents A Smooth Running Oscars & Thoughts On Who Should Host Next Year

Every year we moan about the Oscars. “They’re so long!” “I don’t know any of these movies!” “Why is Jennifer Lopez at the Oscars every year??” “These jokes aren’t funny” So on, and so forth. I take each year’s ceremony with a grain of salt. I’ve loved some hosts past (Hugh Jackman, Ellen instantly come to mind) and absolutely despised others (James Franco). This year I think we can all agree, for the most part, that the Oscars were not extra boring, they ran on time, and for the most part… we… gulp… were entertained?

I love Billy Crystal. Everyone pretty much loves Billy Crystal. He’s a safe and harmless choice, he makes funny faces for your kids to laugh at and your 90 year old meema loves his weird Jewish accent. He’s a very safe, presentable choice. And I think that’s what the Academy was going for this year. They’re always safe, but after last year’s disaster of a show (I will forever not place any blame on Anne and all on James) they really needed to be the cracker to the next piece of food (guys, I’m full of f-cking wisdom today). I think some of his jokes fell flat, I don’t know if I needed a musical number (I never need a musical number, actually) but he made it work, I think his Jonah Hill joke was off side, but again, it was fun, it was fine and it was safe. I was more impressed with the entire production of the show – unlike the Grammy Awards and the SAGs and the Globes there was barely any sound problems or camera glitches; the Oscars always present quality television in the technical sense. It also made me happy. I loved movies again. I mean I always love movies but starting the day after the Oscars to the day of the Oscars, the year in film can be very grating. Award season is very grating. It can take a lot of the fun out of it, especially when shit that shouldn’t get nominated, does. But the montages, the little bits from other actors talking about films, all of it made me love what I love. Film!

Now, with all that said let’s discuss next year’s host. Again, Billy did a great job and the show, to everyone’s amazement went UP in the ratings from last year (I would give all the credit to The Dictator) and now we can go from here. Who would you like to see host? Every time Tina Fey or someone from SNL presents, we automatically throw their name in the hat. I’d love to see Tina and Amy host the awards. I’m pretty sure I said that last year in my recap of the show. But as I posted earlier, I’d VERY much like to see Jimmy Kimmel host the show, which I never thought I’d say. I’d also like to see Ellen come back and host and make me like her again (you can yell at me in the comment section below for that remark). I need only comedians to host the show ever though. Not people who think they’re funny (see: Jennifer Lopez & Cameron Diaz).

  1. I think Tina Fey would be an interesting host, although I haven’t seen her do a lot of risky jokes in the past so it may come off safe like many recent awards.

I would love to see Steve Martin and Martin Short host together (sorry, Alec). I think they’re too old for the emerging Justin Beiber demographic, though :-(.

The bad humor last night was annoying. Who came up with the Paltrow/Downey bit? Awful.

  2. Hi there this is kind of of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be enormously appreciated!

    1. I don’t HTML anything on here. I just click “new post” and write away. To attach images and videos, WordPress provides links and stuff like that. It’s really fairly simple. Good luck!
