READ & WATCH: ‘Anchorman 2′ Is Happening Whether You Like It Or Not

As I’m certain you’ve already heard, Ron Burgundy appeared on Conan last night to announce that Anchorman 2 is in fact happening. Watch above.

Let’s just get to this: Almost everyone, including myself, are very happy this is happening. I absolutely love the first movie, I quote it on the regular, I’ve seen it countless times; it is a classic and I don’t care who knows it. Admittedly, there are those who have absolutely no desire to see this or to have it happen, or just don’t care. I can understand that but, that is not what this is about.

What this is about is the actual need for this. Sequels are almost always unnecessary unless it is an obvious franchise film, or sometimes along the lines of Scream 2. Because if not you just get The Hangover Part II. See? I’m not saying sequels should not happen. They are inevitable and griping about them helps absolutely no one. But they should only happen if the story can and should continue over.

Over the weekend I saw 21 Jump Street. I absolutely loved the film and laughed to the point of tears (SEE IT) but the film ends with the “sequel ending”. It was fine, whatever, but as I thought more and more about it, unless the sequel is amazing it has a high chance of sucking. 21 Jump Street, in my opinion, is almost perfect. EVERYTHING works. Everything that should happen does. I don’t need to see more. It didn’t leave me disappointed, wanting another go. And the same can be said for Anchorman. How can one POSSIBLY recapture the essence of that first film? It’ll be near impossible.

  1. you’re last sentence is why I don’t want to see it. For me, the first Anchorman wasn’t funny after “I’m in a glass box of emotions” … then it was just sloppy. so what exactly are they going to do with A2?
