This has been very anticipated by many, but for myself, I was all like “huh? oh…” But that’s me. I’m not a big fan of the period piece and then mix that with Keira Knightley and I’ve been deterred.
With that said, the trailer for Joe Wright’s vision of Anna Karenina is masterful. What a beautifully edited, scored, everything trailer, right? I just tweeted that in terms of the Oscar-y movies that have had their trailers released in recent weeks, it goes like this: The Master>Les Miserables>Anna Karenina>Django Unchained>The Great Gatsby and I think, for the most part, that’s right. It’s not that I think Gatsby will be bad (though we all remember Baz and Australia) it’s just…he doesn’t know how to be subtle while being grand and the entire time I watched the trailer for this I thought to myself, THIS is what Baz thought he had done with the Gatsby trailer. But it wasn’t.
As for Keira and another period piece? I know, I know BUT if it works why fix it, right? And it’s only her third with Joe Wright and these two have created what many consider to be modern classics together (Atonement & Pride & Prejudice). I think Keira will be good, if overshadowed by Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Jude Law. Did you even know that was Jude Law? It took me a good minute to realize it.
I need more trailers to be like this trailer.
